Message from Dr. Jerry Rand,
Medical Director at Bay Recovery Centers

As an organizational member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, International and American Pain Society Pain Management, and on behalf of our Board of Directors and staff at Bay Recovery Centers, Inc., I would like to thank you for this opportunity to introduce our services. At Bay Recovery Centers Inc. we specialize in psychiatric care and the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, including prescribed medication dependence. Bay Recovery Centers, Inc. has State of California Drug and Alcohol Program Licensed and Certified homes located in the Mission Bay Park of San Diego County.

In a recent article published in the New England Bureau and the annual meeting of the Society of General Internal Medicine, Dr. LeChauncy Woodard, M.D. of Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, reports the following statistics. “Estimates the prevalence of substance co-use among abusers of prescription analgesics, Dr. Woodard and her colleagues reviewed data from the 2000 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, which showed that about 2.9% of American’s reported non-medical use of pain relievers during the prior year, and 93% of those pain relievers were opioid analgesics. Among users of prescription pain relievers, 23% reported heavy alcohol use, 46% reported using marijuana, and 46% reported co-using other illicit substances. This report also showed that individuals aged younger than 50 years were significantly more likely to be co-users of all three types of substance than were those older than 50.

As many studies report similar findings, Bay Recovery Centers, Inc. was formed. Our primary purpose is to help the individual and their families overcome the difficulties with addiction.

Drug and Alcohol dependency, includes prescription and medications, Alternative Sentencing, Dually Diagnosed, Pain Management. Additionally, sleeping and the immune systems are dramatically affected by dependency of medication and drug addiction.

Our goal is to educate our clients on the dangerous effects associated with drugs and alcohol, as well as the socioeconomic ramifications involved with the progressive disease of addiction and the vicious cycle of substance abuse. We look at the coexisting issues that underlie these problems, and design an individualized treatment plan based on the specifics of each case.
